Whether in ancient times or in the modern world, heroes still serve the purpose of influencing people to be more courageous, and to reach for higher goals. Heroes are known mainly for their fearless acts or noble character. Heroes prompt people to better themselves, as they help us to dream larger, and work harder. Heroes never give up in their daring acts and encourage other people to do the same. The definition of a â€Å"hero† depends on the era in which they lived in. In ancient times, heroes were more physically powerful and praised than those idolized in the modern world. In Ancient Greece, heroes were known for much different accomplishments than heroes are known for today. The Greeks looked up to heroes that were very talented and that did nearly impossible tasks. The heroes looked upon during this period of time, sometimes used magical powers to overcome tasks that mortals could not. Ancient heroes were celebrated for their great strength, knowledge, or ability to possess special powers. Stories that told about ancient heroes were often made up to explain a natural disaster or occurrence. These heroes were usually male, immensely talented, violent and conquered empires or places. One positive aspect of the Ancient Greeks’ idea of a hero, is it encouraged the Greeks to want to have immense strength and pursue greatness. One downside to this definition, is that heroes could only be male.
